Advertising - 2009: Ozzy & Samsung

Ozzy Osbourne's latest series of advertisements delve into his infamous lack of spatial awareness in addition to his usual persona depicted in his television reality show "The Osbournes."

1. Samsung Jack:

This is a cracker of an advertisement and was aired during the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs in the USA in 2009.

"Samsung Mobile and Ozzy Osbourne Team Up to Launch the Samsung Jack(TM), the next generation Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone available exclusively to AT&T customers in the U.S and powered by the nations fastest 3G network. The Jack combines the familiar look and feel of a Windows desktop with a stylish, streamlined device ideal for customers looking to simplify and increase the productivity of their business and personal lives."

2. Samsung Propel

This advertisement uses Ozzy's mumbling to texting advantage.

3. Samsung Alias 2

Voodoo magic or just the new Samsung available to Ozzy Osbourne?

I for one, find this series of advertisements very effective and humourous, and believe that Samsung's Ozzy sponsorship will be very profitable for them. Which of the videos did you prefer and why?

  1. I agree that they can be humourus as They did make me chuckle. However I am not sure who they are trying to target here? Surely not fans of rock and roll? I can assume that the TA may be for those people who are slightly technology illiterate. So people from the age of . . . 40 upwards who may keep hold of theri Nokia 3210. They may also attract the rockers as well, as an extra bonus.

WRONG! as someone who likes Metal and Rock adverts like this really irritate me because of the blindingly obvious mocking of Ozzy. All this started with The Osbournes and Sharon my opinions of which shall be left out of this. To me it's the sad demise and exploitation of a classic rocker. I wouildn't want to buy this samsung because of these adverts

  2. I see what you're getting at Scott. However you have to look at these advertisements from the MTV generation, compared to the "Prince of Darkness" from all those years ago.

The reason they play on his mumbling, bumbling mannerisms link in play with the reality show, in addition to the fact that the majority of American viewers struggle to understand him in general. This is not a mockery as such, but a more satirical viewpoint from the target consumer.

At the end of the day... he's rich enough and if he did not want to participate in a comedic advertisement, he would tell them to board the crazy train and leave him alone.

  3. I'm MTV generation. I know I ahve a personal dislike to having him used rather than looking at it at an advertising side - audiences are stupid!

and as for making his mind made up - sharon is manipulative. there is a reason why Ozzy tried to kill her. This is going to start to look like a youtube comments page soon. lol
